"Finding the right credit card for Christmas shopping"

By Reno | September 9th, 2010 | Credit Cards, Featured

Although it may seem a while before Christmas swings around it often comes around far faster than we imagine, and before we know it the shops are full of Christmas goodies, and friends and family members – and the kids – are making their demands with regards to gifts.

For many people in the current financial climate dipping into savings to fund Christmas spending simply won’t be an option this year, and therefore an alternative is required, which for many people is the trusty credit card. However, it is important to have the right credit card for your purchases otherwise you will end up paying way over the odds for everything that you buy.

Many credit cards charge an astonishingly high rate of interest, and anyone purchasing on these cards could end up paying through the nose for their purchases as a result of the interest that they will pay on the debt accrued on the card. It is therefore a good idea to start looking for the right card as early as possible so that you can enjoy the peace of mind that your finances are sorted in plenty of time for Christmas.

The best choice for those that are planning to use a credit card for their Christmas purchases and then spread the cost over a period of time is a 0 percent purchase credit card. These cards offer great value for money on borrowing, as they allow users to make their purchases and them repay the balance over a generous period of time without being charged any interest on the debt providing it is cleared within the specified interest free period.

However, there are also those that may be planning to make their purchases and then repay the balance in full within the standard interest free period. In these cases the best choice of card may be a rewards based credit card, offering rewards such as air miles, cash back, or discounts for every pound spent on the card. These cards will enable cardholders to earn a little something back for using the card, whilst at the same time avoid paying interest because the debt will be repaid in full within the standard interest free period.

It is important to remember that the terms and conditions of these credit cards can vary from one provider to another, so you should always compare the different deals on offer.
