"Barclaycard allows consumers to check eligibility online"

By admin | September 19th, 2009 | Credit Cards

According to a recent report the credit card giant Barclaycard has introduced a new facility that will allow consumers to check on their eligibility for a Barclaycard before they go to the trouble of making a full application.

Many of those that have been applying for a Barclaycard lately have found that their application has been turned down, and this is because the lender is being far more careful about who it lends money to, taking future financial risks based on customer information.

However, for those that are turned down it means that not only will they have completed a lengthy application for nothing but worse still there is a black mark left on their credit file because of the rejection, which can then result in their credit score falling, causing further financial problems in the future.

However, with the new facility from Barclaycard consumers will not have a credit check carried out, as this is classed as a pre-application, and gives the consumers the chance to check on the likelihood of getting a Barclaycard before they risk making an actual application.

Officials from Barclaycard have said that they pre-application check will not have any impact on the credit rating or file of the consumer, and whilst it does leave a note on the file to say that information has been accessed it has no adverse effect on the consumer’s credit rating.

The company said that it is currently the first credit card company to offer consumers this type of facility to check their eligibility and chances of approval before making an application.

One official from Barclaycard said: “Consumers currently need to apply in full for a credit card in the UK, without knowing whether they are likely to be accepted or not, leaving a search on their credit file which can potentially have a negative impact on their credit rating. This unique pre-application check solves this problem.”
