According to a recent report the level of donations being made to charities through the use of credit cards in the UK remains strong and healthy, and this is despite the difficult financial climate and the ongoing recession that is affecting most households.
Data was released by the UK Cards Association, and indicated that whilst consumers were trying to cut back on outgoings in the current climate the charitable habits of many credit card holders had not changed.
Many people have opted for charity credit cards, which are credit cards that make a donation to charity for each pound spent on the card, working along the same lines as a rewards based card.
The amount that was spent last year on these charity credit cards was £6.7 billion, and with the average amount being donated to charity by the credit card companies coming in at around 0.25 percent of the amount spent charities benefited from around £16.7 million by way of donations from charity based credit cards.
Last year also saw an 18 percent increase in the number of donations made to charities through the use of credit and debit cards, with industry experts stating that despite the recession and the financial climate Brits are still keen to give generously to charities and worthy causes. Last year about £1.19 billion was donated to charities using plastic cards, and this was actually an increase from the previous year when £1.01 billion was donated in this way.
