Over recent years rewards based credit cards have become increasingly popular amongst credit card users in the UK, and many have been able to enjoy earning a range of rewards simply for using their cards, such as getting cash back on purchases, earning travel rewards, earning air miles, getting various discounts, and a range of other useful rewards.
In the current climate, where money is tight for many people, the rewards that are available on these rewards credit cards may prove even more popular amongst savvy cardholders that want to make the most of their credit card use.
With this in mind there could be good news for customers of Barclaycard, as the chief executive of the lending giant has recently stated that the company plans to start offering reward credit cards to its customers, hopefully within the next year.
The chief executive, Antony Jenkins, said that customers using Barclaycard would be able to enjoy monetary gifts and benefits when they used their cards to make purchases at certain retailers or establishments.
Mr Jenkins stated: “I’ve always believed we should launch a scheme which leverages the different parts of our business in the UK. I envisage shoppers get rewarded at a vast range of retailers… from online shopping to a takeaway or restaurant, when they make their usual purchases on their Barclaycard.”
Barclaycard has been expanding its range significantly recently, and has been taking advantage of new technologies coming onto the market. It has already introduced contacless payment methods for credit and debit cardholder, and has also been in discussions with mobile phone giant Orange with regards to mobile payments.
