At this time of year, with Christmas and the New Year sales almost upon us, many people start applying for credit cards to help them to fund the festive season, and the number of credit card applications tends to go up at this time of year. With finances having been tight for many households over the course of this year many people have not managed to save money to put towards Christmas, and may therefore be relying upon credit cards.
However, another problem this year is that credit conditions have become increasingly tight and this means that many people may find that they cannot get a credit cart at all because of their credit status. This could prove to be very disappointing for those intending to put the expense of Christmas on the plastic, but for those that are rejected it is important not to take action that will make matters even worse.
Many people immediately start applying for credit elsewhere in the event that they are turned down for a credit card, and this could make matters even worse because this can further damage your credit, and can result in an increased number of rejections. Bearing in mind that each time your application for finance is rejected your credit is adversely affected you should avoid this and should wait at least three months before you apply for credit again after being turned down.
In the meantime it is a good idea to do your research before you make an application for a credit card to minimise on the risk of being turned down. For instance you can order and check your credit report and rating to determine the likelihood of you being turned down or accepted for a credit card.
