Enjoy increased protection when you make purchases on your credit card

According to industry officials consumers that use their credit cards to make purchases online can enjoy greater protection than those that make purchases with their debit cards as a result of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. This applies to a range of purchases including the purchase of tickets. Many people purchase tickets online and become victims of ticket scams, but purchasing on a credit card offers protection that those purchasing via other methods do not get.

Officials from Trading Standards have stated that those consumers that purchase tickets online using their credit cards will enjoy greater protection, adding that this protection also extends to other purchases between the values of £100 and £30,000. Many people make purchases using plastic online and via the telephone, but the protection that you receive when you use a debit card is not as great as with a credit card, which Trading Standards want consumers to be aware of.

Officials have said that in cases where the item does not get delivered or arrives damaged the consumers can claim the money back from the credit card firm under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 as long as the item costs between £100 and £30,000 or is a ticket. Many people have fallen victim to ticket scams recently for events ranging from the Olympic Games to festivals such as V or Reading.

The increased protection offered by credit cards was recently displayed in the incident concerning the low cost airline Zoom, which folded recently, leaving many passengers stranded. However, those that purchased their tickets by credit card were advised that they were protected, whereas this was not necessarily the case with those purchasing with debit cards and using other payment methods.
