"Credit cards for those with bad credit"

By admin | September 28th, 2008 | Featured

As many people know it can be all too easy to fall behind with payments on bills and debts, especially in the current financial climate when household budgets are extremely strained and people are struggling to make ends meet each month. More and more people have been finding themselves in this position over recent months, and whilst there is help out there for people that are struggling to keep on top of their debts and payments nothing can be done about the effect that this can have on your credit rating and file.

Your credit rating and history can be damaged through missed or late payments on bills and debts, as well as by a number of other factors, and once your credit rating has dropped it can be a long hard slog to get it back up to scratch again. Those with poor credit will often find it far more difficult to get any form of finance in the future, such as a mortgage, loan, credit card, or car finance, and this can make life very difficult in a world where most of us relay on credit to fund the things we want in life. However, there are some lenders that specialise in offering credit to those with damaged credit, such as credit cards.

There are a couple of main providers that offer credit cards to those with damaged credit, and these are Capital One and Vanquis. You should bear in mind that you will need to meet the lender’s eligibility criteria, and if you are successful the interest rate charged is likely to be very high based on how bad your credit rating is, whilst the borrowing levels are likely to be low in order to stop you from falling into spiralling debt levels. Due to the high interest rates you should avoid spreading your repayments on these cards – simply use them for ease and convenience, and then repay them in full each month so that you avoid interest charges.

One of the main benefits of taking out a credit card if you have poor credit is that this can eventually help to bring your credit rating back up to scratch. By making timely and responsible repayments on your credit card your credit rating will gradually start to improve, although this will take time. However, if you continue to make late repayments or miss repayments your credit can be further damaged and you will also face hefty charges from the credit card firm.

If you think that you could benefit from a credit card for those with poor credit you should take a look at the cards on offer for people in this category, and compare details such as the interest rate and charges. Also check the eligibility requirements before you apply, as otherwise you could end up being rejected for credit, and this in itself could further damage your credit rating.
