Filling up the car can cost a fortune at the best of times, but over recent weeks many consumers have found that the cost of filling up has become crippling, as petrol prices have soared to record levels. Many households are already trying to deal with strained budgets due to rising living costs and bills, and the rocketing cost of petrol has simply added to the difficulties, leaving many unable to stretch their monthly income as far as they need to.
However, the recent launch of a couple of credit cards that offer petrol related incentives could help some people to save money on the cost of petrol, and industry officials have said that it could be well worth some consumers looking into these cards in order to reduce the cost of filling up and ease financial problems, particularly for consumers that tend to travel a lot and have to fill up regularly.
The credit cards are being offered by Asda and Shell, and both enable consumers to save money on the cost of filling up. With the Asda credit card consumers can enjoy two pence off per litre of petrol when purchased at an Asda station using the Asda credit card. In addition to this cardholders will be able to enjoy nine months of interest free credit on balance transfers.
With the Shell MasterCard customers can enjoy a rebate of 3% off petrol bought on the card at petrol stations using the Shell credit card, and in addition to this will be able to enjoy twelve months of interest free credit on balance transfers. A further 1% rebate is available on all other purchases made on the Shell credit card.
One industry official recently stated: ‘Rebates for both cards have to be redeemed in a Shell or Asda petrol station respectively. However, in today’s market, even a small saving can make a big difference, so consumers should be looking for any opportunity to relieve their money pressures.’
