The Internet proves a useful tool for credit card users

There are many different ways of looking for and applying for credit cards these days, as well as many ways of managing credit card account or simply learning more about the different credit cards available from lenders. There are many different types of credit cards available these days too, so it has become more important than ever to thoroughly research the market before making a decision with regards to which card will best suit your needs.

Some people go to their bank to learn more about different credit cards and to make an application, whereas others decide to use the phone and ring around different lenders in order to learn more about products and make an application. However, a recent report has shown that the most popular method of research and application amongst credit card customers is to go online. The research also showed that the majority of consumers prefer to operate their credit card accounts online too.

The research was conducted by Global Reviews. It showed that 64% of consumers used the Internet to browse, compare, and apply for credit cards. This is because there is a wealth of information about the many different types of credit cards online, and consumers can enjoy the ease and convenience of browsing from the comfort of their own homes, and at any time of the day or night. Often, consumers will also receive an instant decision on their application when they use the Internet to make an application.

The results of the research also showed that a massive 68% of consumers preferred to use the Internet when it came to managing their credit card account as well. Again, the Internet offers ease, convenience, and comfort to those that want to manage their accounts without having to deal with lengthy phone calls or go traipsing to their local branch in order to check on their account details.

Around 78% of us tend to use the Internet to get more information about credit cards before we make an application, whilst only 2% now use the phone to learn more about credit card products, and only 11% visit a branch to find out more about credit cards. Officials have stated that the Internet has revolutionised the world of finance research and application, but did express concern over the varying quality of credit card providers’ websites.

One official said: “As household budgets tighten across the UK, many credit card customers will start to notice the rates they have been paying on their credit cards and begin to look around for better deals. With so many customers going online, providers wanting to attract these customers need to make sure that their website offers the information customers are looking for. All the online applications we looked at could be significantly improved. There is a lot more that providers can be doing to make it easier for their customers online.”
