A recent report has shown that credit card customers prefer to use the Internet to find, apply for, and manage their credit cards. With credit conditions getting tighter and the rates on credit cards getting higher and higher, more and more customers will be looking for better deals on credit cards. The report suggests that the majority of consumers prefer to go online to deal with all aspect of their credit cards, from application to account management.
The research, carried out by Global Reviews, showed that 64% of consumers prefer to apply for a credit card online because of the ease and convenience that comes with this method of sourcing and applying for a credit card. The research also showed that 68% of consumers liked to manage their credit card accounts online due to the speed and convenience of this method of account management.
The figures also showed that 78% of consumers use the Internet to browse and compare credit cards before making an application, whilst 11% visit a branch to find out more about credit cards, and just 2% now research by phone. There is, however, some concern about the quality of some credit card websites, which officials state can vary quite widely from one provider to another.
One industry official stated: “As household budgets tighten across the UK, many credit card customers will start to notice the rates they have been paying on their credit cards and begin to look around for better deals. With so many customers going online, providers wanting to attract these customers need to make sure that their website offers the information customers are looking for. All the online applications we looked at could be significantly improved. There is a lot more that providers can be doing to make it easier for their customers online.”
