In this day and age an increasing number of people shop for all sorts of items online, from weekly groceries to holidays, clothes, gifts, entertainment, and more. However, one thing that all online shoppers fear is becoming the victim of fraud, particularly given that they have to enter their credit card details onto the site. Whilst many websites are secure and use sophisticated software to protect shoppers many people are still concerned about using their credit cards online.
However, credit card giant Visa has said that it may have developed something that could restore confidence amongst consumers and could help to cut down on credit card fraud. This comes in the form of a credit card that actually has its own LCD display and keypad. The credit card is going to be tested in the UK next year according to reports. The credit cards are fitted with batteries that last around three years, and this enables the display to function.
Every time an online purchase is made the buyer has to input their PIN into the card keyboard. This will result in a special code coming up on the LCD and this code is then entered online to be approved by Visa’s servers, at which point the transaction can be completed. Visa officials have said that if the card does prove effective and popular it could help to boost the popularity of online shopping.
One official from Visa stated: ‘We saw a big rise in online shopping, but consumers were still worried about fraud. We hope this new card will help allay those fears, and give consumers more confidence when shopping online.’
